ARC renewal at Immigration — HiKorea online reservation walkthrough

HiKorea is Korea's immigration portal. It's the only way to book an ARC renewal appointment in most Seoul offices now. The interface is dated but workable. Here's the walkthrough that gets you through it without three attempts.

Step 1: Account. Go to www.hikorea.go.kr. If you don't have an account, register — you'll need your ARC number and a Korean phone number. Set the language to English at the top right.

Step 2: Log in and navigate to eApplication. Under the menu, find "eApplication → Application for Registered Alien Registration Card". The path is not intuitive. Look for 체류허가 신청 or "Application for Alien Registration".

Step 3: Choose your service. Select "Extension of period of stay" (기간연장허가) — this is what most renewals fall under. Not "issue" (that's for first-time). Not "reissue" (that's for lost cards).

Step 4: Fill the application form online. The form asks for:

• Your current visa details (auto-filled from your ARC).
• New address (must match where you actually live).
• Employer or school info.
• Reason for extension — dropdown, pick the one that matches your situation.

Save frequently. HiKorea will log you out after 20 minutes of inactivity and won't warn you.

Step 5: Book the appointment. After submitting the form, you'll see available appointment slots at your local office. Popular slots (mornings, Mondays) go fast. If nothing is available in the next 3 weeks, try booking at a different Immigration office — you can technically go to any office in the country, though usually you should stay in your registered region.

Step 6: Print your confirmation. Bring the printed reservation confirmation to your appointment, along with the physical documents from the checklist.

Alternative: some renewal cases can now be handled entirely online — no in-person visit required. Look for a "delegated processing" option after you submit. If eligible, you'll get an email in a few days with your new card mailed to you. Not all visa types qualify. If you qualify, use it.

The HiKorea site works best in Chrome. Safari sometimes fails on the payment step.
